The inaugural event will see over 4000 participants and spectators converge on the Gold Coast July 27-August 3, 2024, to compete across six sports: AFL, basketball, hockey, netball, softball and swimming.
Looking to create more opportunities for students to take part in competitive sport, the School Sport Games will see teams from all states and territories represented and come together for an exciting five days.
Chris Bates, director of Study & Play USA (SPUSA), leading Australian based US college scholarship facilitators said: “School Sport Australia provide such fantastic events where participants from not only in Australia but in neighbouring countries access high level competition whilst providing educational and cultural opportunities to learn and grow.”
“We are delighted to be involved in this educational space, daring these youngsters to dream about the possibilities they can access via the US university pathway.”
Study & Play USA facilitates millions of dollars worth of scholarships each year for young athletes.
“Some of our University graduates are excelling as Olympians, Wall Street traders, teachers, engineers, doctors, pharmacists and even US University coaches” Says Chris.
Making the announcement at the official launch event, alongside Experience Gold Coast CEO Mr John Warn at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, School Sport Australia Chief Executive Phil Reeves said the event would be a highlight for students and parents.
“School Sport Australia is thrilled to announce the launch of the inaugural School Sport Australia Games, delivered by UniSport Australia, on the Gold Coast.” Mr Reeves.
“This represents a significant milestone in the landscape of representative school sports, and we are staging six of our Championships at the onetime.
“This multi-sport event will be staged at the same time as the Paris Olympics and no doubt will be a fantastic pathway towards participating in Queensland in 8 years’ time at our own Games in 2032.
Mr Reeves added “the School Sport Australia Games will give all students an unforgettable sporting and educational experience.
“This would not be possible without the major support of the Queensland State Government, and our event partners like Gold Coast City Council, Uni Sport Australia and Struddys.”
Students aged 10-19, accompanied by parents and friends will travel from all over the country to the sunshine state, bringing yet another exciting boost to tourism and the Gold Coast being Australia’s home of participation sport.
